Joining San Jose Search and Rescue
Becoming a productive member of SJSAR is a three –step process:
- First, attend three consecutive Wednesday night meetings. We want you to understand what the team does and the expectations we have for members. This is also a time for you to meet us and decide if this is the right volunteer activity for you.
- Once you’ve attended your initial meetings, the membership committee will provide you with a team application and schedule an interview. After a thorough review of your application and completing the interview, the membership committee will extend an offer to join the team pending a background check and DMV record.
- Before becoming eligible for field duty, new members must purchase uniforms, put together a 24-hour ready pack, and complete specific trainings. In the first year members are expected to obtain their First Responder medical certificate and pass the NASAR SAR TECH III test.
